MOBILITAS SOSIAL VERTIKAL PEDAGANG LEMANG DI DESA TANJUNG SIRIH KECAMATAN PULAU PINANG KABUPATEN LAHAT
Vertical social mobility is the process of individuals or groups moving from onesocial position to another higher or lower social position. The movement refers tochanges in social status within the realms of employment, education, economy,politics, and religion. The vertical social mobility analyzed in this study relates tothe transition from agricultural laborers to lemang traders in the village ofTanjung Sirih, Pulau Pinang Subdistrict, Lahat Regency. This research focusesthe process and forms of vertical social mobility, as well as changes insocioeconomic status. The study used a qualitative research method with a casestudy research strategy. The results of the study showed that: (1) The process ofvertical social mobility from agricultural laborers to lemang traders is influencedby aging and physical limitations that hinder continued work as laborers, loweducational attainment, and the increasing demand to meet higher needs. (2) Theform of vertical social mobility observed is upward mobility based on stability indaily income, improved welfare, reduced work burden, flexible working hours.and enhanced social and economic standing within the local community. (3)Perceived changes in socioeconomic status among lemang truders includeincreased awareness of education, a propensity for saving, home improvementvehicle ownership, purchasing valuable items, preparing financially for all amdadapting to other business opportunities Keywords: Job Mobility, Agricultural Laborers.
