STRUKTUR POPULASI Nypa fruticans (Thunb.) Wurmb PADA KAWASAN MANGROVE TERDEGRADASI DI TANJUNG BUYUT BANYUASIN SUMATERA SELATAN
Nipah (Nypa fruticans (Thunb.) Wurmb) is included in the Arecaceae which occupy at the edge zone and its growth is influenced by fresh water. Banyuasin Regency as the one of the mangrove areas in Sumatra that had been degradated for years. Tanjung Buyut as the part of mangrove area in Banyuasin is also had been disturbed by community activities. Commonly, the structure of a degraded mangrove area could be different from an undegraded mangrove area. A degraded mangrove ecosystem cause decline on the density of the Nipah population. This research aimed to determine the structure of Nipah population including density, frequency and dominance of Nipah based on growth stage in degraded mangrove areas in Tanjung Buyut Banyuasin, South Sumatra. This research was conducted in February 2024 which was carried out in Tanjung Buyut, Banyuasin, South Sumatra. The used method was direct observation and sampling station was determined by purposive sampling method based on the level of disturbance and the abiotic environmental parameters were observed concist of water salinity, soil pore water salinity, substrate pH, substrate moisture, and substrate texture. The results showed that differences in disturbance levels at three stations in Tanjung Buyut had impact to the Nipah population structure. At Station 1 which closed to settlements, the highest density was found in juvenile plants (880 ind/ha) and the lowest in mature plants (166.67 ind/ha), without seedlings, and the highest dominance in adults (31,148.2 m2/ha). At Station 2 at the transition location, the highest density was in adults (853.33 ind/ha) and seedlings (500 ind/ha), while the highest dominance was in adults (46,083.3 m2/ha). At Station 3, which located far from settlements, the highest density was found in adults (673.33 ind/ha), no seedlings and juveniles, and the highest dominance in adults (82,085.8m/ha). The conclusion of this research is that Nipah at the adults growth stage are known to be most able to adapt to the level of disturbance at each station.
