The process of appraising employees in a company has several criteria, of which there are several difficulties in giving weight to each criterion. Therefore, it is very necessary to have a decision support system to improve the performance of employees at the company. Currently,PT Pertamina Refinery Unit III Palembang is holding a reward event which aims to appreciate the annual performance of employees. However, the system in conducting the assessment process, the criteria are often not right on target, which causes employees to feel unfair. This is due to the difficulty of entering large amounts of physical data into digital data that can be processed by software. Another problem that often occurs during the evaluation (appraisal) process of employee performance is the subjectivity in the performance appraisal, especially if some of the existing employees have abilities that are not much different. Therefore, in this research, the writer uses SMARTER (Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique Exploiting Ranks) as a method of calculation. Weighting in the SMARTER method uses ROC (range order centroid) weighting, starting from 0 to 1, which makes it easier to calculate and compare the values of each alternative.
