PERAN THE BIG FIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS TERHADAP PARANORMAL BELIEF PADA MASYARAKAT INDONESIA
This study aims to determine role of the big five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience) towards paranormal belief among Indonesian. The study hypothesis that there are a role for extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience personality towards paranormal belief. The population of this study was Indonesian. The research sample was 310 person and for the try out was 63 person. This study used the accidental sampling technique. Paranormal belief was measured by modifying the scale which refers to the dimensions of paranormal belief from Tobacyk (2004) and the big five personality traits was measured by the scale which refers to the factors of the big five personality traits from Goldberg (1981). The research used simple regression analysis. The regression result showed that neuroticism traits (R=0,131, R square =0,017 , F=5,398, p=0,021) and agreeableness ( R=0,223, R square = 0,050, F=16,193, p=0,000) have the significant role towards paranormal belief among Indonesian. Thus, the hypothesis was accepted. Whereas, the result of extraversion (R=0,18, R square=0,000, F=0,105, p=0,746), conscientiousness (R=0,072, R square=0,005, p=0,206) and openness to experience (R=0,022, R square=0,000, F=0,153, p=0,696) showed that there are no significant role of extraversion, conscientiousness and openness to experience towards paranormal belief among Indonesian.
