PENGARUH PERLAKUAN PANAS NORMALIZING TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI PADA BAJA KARBON RENDAH
Corrosion is damage that occurs to metal with a brownish color marked on the metal surface, one of the factors for corrosion is the environment. To slow down the occurrence of corrosion is done by giving heat treatment, one of which is normalizing heat treatment. This research is an experimental study with the aim of knowing the effect of normalizing heat treatment on the corrosion rate of low carbon steel. This research uses low carbon steel St 37 and the corrosion medium is salt water. Corrosion is carried out for 30 days by hanging the specimen above the salt water solution. The results of this study showed that specimens that were not treated with normalizing heat had a corrosion rate of 0.378 mpy and those that were given normalizing heat treatment were 1.102 mpy. So the conclusion is normalizing heat treatment on the corrosion rate of St 37 carbon steel which has undergone previous heat treatment is to accelerate the occurrence of corrosion.
