DSSC is a photoelectrochemical device that can convert solar energy into electrical energy by utilizing plant dyes as sensitizers. One of the factors that can affect the electrical performance of DSSC is dye. Dye with high carotene content is able to excite molecules dye more so that electron transfer is maximized. The dye obtained in this study was the result of carotene extract from water primrose flowers using the Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE) method and then dried using method foam-mat drying to obtain a dye powdered. The aim of this research is to study the electrical performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) with varied concentrations of dye from powdered-dye of water primrose (Ludwigia peruviana) extract dried by foam-mat drying method. This research was conducted in April 2021 until June 2021 at the Energy Electrification Laboratory and Chemical Laboratory of Agricultural Products, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The series of this research are preparation of DSSC structure, arrangement and assembly of DSSC layers, and measurement of DSSC. The TCO glass used has a resistance between 1.7 Ω to 17.7 Ω. DSSC was tested with variations in concentration dye 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, and control samples without concentration. Parameters observed in this study include: total carotene content with absorbance data at 436 nm using linear regression equation, water primrose flower water content, current and voltage characteristics, power calculation, fill factor, and DSSC efficiency. The highest carotene content was found in the DSSC BK V sample with concentration of dye 10% namely 7.897 mg/L. The best DSSC electrical performance is DSSC BK II sample with concentration of dye 4% with the resulting electrical characteristics Isc: 0.0163 mA, Voc: 740 mV, Imax: 0.0140 mA, Vmax: 507 mV, Poutput: 7,0980 mW, FF: 0,5885, and the efficiency is 4,53%.
