Acid dry land is one of the problems that mainly occurs on dry land, due to less quality of the land for agriculture. Acid dry land has the characteristics of low pH, saturation of bases, low C-organic, high Al content, high P fixation, and level of iron and manganese close to toxic limit. Ultisol is one type of soils that has low pH, which also has several problems that can be solved by adding organic matter. This study aims to compare the growth of acacia (Acacia mangium Willd.) seedlings with various combinations of growing media (soil, cocopeat, burnt husk). The research was conducted from September 2020 to January 2021 in Palembang. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) and the results of the observations were analyzed using ANOVA and the Orthogonal Contrast Test. The results show that treatment with 100% soil media (P1) and soil media (90%) + burnt husk (10%) gave the highest average value for the variables of plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, total leaf area, weight ratio of shoot to root. The addition of cocopeat seems to inhibit the growth of acacia plants seeds due to content of tannin in cocopeat, which incompletely lost due to time of washing and soaking the cocopeat, and become a barrier in the absorption of nutrients in plants. The results suggest that the use of cocopeat prior to optimum wash and soak in reducing the tannin before using, sufficient seeding time (> 14 days), so that the seeds are able to absorb nutrients in the soil when transferred to polybags, need more research in longer time facilitating greater seed development.
