Background: Periodontal tissue in the elderly will experience aging and decrease its function as tooth supporting tissue. Decreased function of the periodontal tissue was accompanied by abnormalities in the periodontal tissue such as periodontitis, which will cause inflammation of the gingiva and tooth loosening. Therefore, it is necessary to have a management that can keep the periodontal tissue healthy even though the aging process and the decline in the function of cells and periodontal tissue continues. Tomato is a fruit that has ingredients that can increase the flow rate of saliva, accelerate wound healing, inhibit bacterial growth, and prevent the process of cell and tissue damage. It was the reason why tomatoes is the right material for management. Objective: To describe the periodontal health status of the elderly who consume tomato juice in South Sumatra. Methods: Study used a descriptive survey method. The number of respondents in this study were 63 respondents from Tresna Werdha Nursing Home, Dharma Bakti, and Werdha Sumarah. The study was conducted using questionnaires and interviewing general questions related to periodontal tissue (age, sex, tooth brushing habits, smoking habits, and history of systemic disease). Results: Xerostomia before (44.05%) and after (32.14%) consumption of tomato juice, halitosis before (59.68%) and after (45.08%) consumption of tomato juice, and gingivitis before (30.42%) ) and the severity of gingivitis after (21.96%) consumption of tomato juice. Conclusion: The consumption of tomato juice had a effect on the condition and periodontal health status.
