PROFIL PASIEN CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME (CTS) DI DEPARTEMEN NEUROLOGI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 1 JANUARI - 31 DESEMBER 2019
Background. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a neuropathy caused by compression of the median nerve through the carpal tunnel at the wrist. This study was conducted to compare the profiles of CTS patients for the period January 1st – December 31st 2019 at the Department of Neurology RSMH Palembang with previous CTS profile studies which may have different demographic characteristics compared to the sample used in this study. Method. This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional design. Result. The majority of CTS patients for the period January 1st - December 31st 2019 at the Neurology Department of RSMH Palembang were ≥40 years old (71.7%). Most CTS patients were female (84.9%). Housewife is the most occupation among CTS patients (43.4%). CTS patients were predominantly patients who had CTS on both hands (67.9%). All CTS patients reported sensory complaints (100%). Most of the CTS patients had no motor symptoms (84.9%). Most of the patients tested positive for phalen (98.1%). The majority of CTS patients got positive results on the tinnel test (92.5%). Most patients had CTS with grade 3 (37.7% for the left hand, and 35.5% for the right hand). Conclusion. CTS patients for the period January 1st - December 31st 2019 at the Neurology Department of RSMH Palembang were dominated by patients aged ≥40 years, female, working as housewives, CTS who affected both hands, had sensory complaints and motor symptoms, showed positive results from the test phalen and tinnel, and has CTS grade 3.
