The Police of the Republic of Indonesia are mandated by laws that function to maintain security and order, protect, serve, enforce the law and protect the public. One of these tasks is the effort to prevent theft by weighting in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation by the Ogan Komering Ilir resort police. In seeking answers to this problem, the author uses empirical research methods, by conducting interviews with several parties, including the OKI Resort Police and the perpetrators of the crime of theft with weights and the community. The results of this study are first, the things that cause the crime of theft with weight in the OKI area are the economic level plus the current natural disaster situation (COVID-19) makes the economy more difficult due to the global crisis due to the covid-19 pandemic, education Low unemployment causes unemployment, the environment, opportunities, opportunities that arise due to the negligence of the victim and lack of legal awareness and are supported by situations and conditions, where the perpetrators know the conditions of the place and time in carrying out their actions Theft by weight is regulated in Article 363 of the Criminal Code. Second, the prevention efforts carried out by the Ogan Komering Ilir Police (POLRES) are carried out using penal efforts, which are more focused on repressive nature, and non-penal, namely focusing on preventive properties, namely taking prevention before the occurrence of a crime.
