This study aims to analyze the variables that determine economic competitiveness and to analyze the economic competitiveness of regensies/cities on the island of Sumatra. The data used is in the form of panel data from 154 regencies/cities on the island of Sumatra with a range from 2015 to 2019. The analysis technique is carried out using multiple linear regression analysis and calculation of standard deviation. Based on the results of the analysis, it is concluded that the variable of economic growth which has a probability value of 0.9448 has no effect on economic competitiveness. Meanwhile, the human development index has an influence on economic competitiveness with a probability value of 0.0000. The top ranking for economic competitiveness is dominated by regencies/cities whose economic base is based on the processing industry as well as mining and quarrying. Medan City, Bengkalis Regency and Batam City are the three regions with the highest economic competitiveness index on the island of Sumatra.
