This thesis was entitled parents' perception of distance learning based online learning in the Covid-19 pandemic era at SMP Negeri 1 Banyuasin III. This research aims to find out how parents' perceptions of distance learning based online learning in the covid-19 pandemic era at SMP Negeri 1 Banyuasin III. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research. The participants in this research involved parents of the ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Banyuasin III in Class 9 C with a total of 20 (twenty) parents. Based on the result of the data analysis, in general, parents of the ninth-grade students in class 9 C revealed that distance learning based online learning carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic students played a lot rather than learning and were lazy to do the assignments given by teachers. It caused students not to focus on learning. Not only that, but parents might also accompany students during online learning. It made parents overwhelmed, especially parents who have to work outside the home. Besides, parents also have difficulty assisting students due to limited knowledge in each subject. Then, the increasing need for an internet quota made it a burden on parents' minds. It makes parents more agreeable if the students do face-to-face learning because they think it is better and more effective than distance learning-based online learning.
