PENGARUH SUSU UHT DAN SUSU PASTEURISASI TERHADAP KEKERASAN PERMUKAAN EMAIL
Introduction : Email is the hardest layer on the tooth crown. The enamel-forming minerals can be detached from the tooth surface called demineralization. Demineralization occurs when the pH of the oral cavity is below the enamel critical pH limit of 5.5.Objective : find out whether there was an effect of UHT milk and Pasteurized milk on enamel surface hardness. Methods: Thirty crowns of maxillary and mandible premolars were divided into three groups, each consisted of 10 tooth crowns. The baseline hardness of each sample (pre-test) was tested using Vicker’s Hardness Tester Digital. Submersion in 1% citric acid solution was conducted for 90 minutes to simulate demineralization process, then enamel hardness was reassessed (post-test 1). Afterwards, submersion in aquades solution was applied to group A, UHT milk was applied to group B, and pasteurized milk to group C (control) for 90 minutes then, the hardness was re-assessed (post-test 2)Statistical tests used in this study were Repeated Anova and One-Way Anova. Results: The results of Repeated Anova test showed all groups experienced significant differences in the value of enamel hardness. The results of one-way ANOVA on pre-test showed that there was insignificant difference, while post-test 1 and post-test 2 revealed significant difference. Post-Hoc Bonferroni posttest 2 test showed that there was statistically significant difference of enamel hardness between group aquades and group UHT milk, and also between group control and group pasteurized milk and there were insignificant groups or the same difference in enamel hardness, which is Group UHT milk and group C pasteurized milk Conclusion: UHT milk and pasteurized milk can increase tooth enamel hardness. There is an effect of UHT milk and pasteurized milk on enamel surface hardness. Keywords: demineralization, email, email hardness, remineralization, pasteurized milk, UHT milk
