Dementia is a condition associated with impaired cognitive function that affects a person's ability to perform physical activity. Dementia that occurs in the elderly can cause forgetfulness, hostility to people around them, and forgetting the way home. When people with dementia are outside and without a primary caregiver accompanying them, they will be confused in finding their way back home. Control from a primary caregiver for dementia sufferer when they do the activity is very important to prevent the disappearance of a dementia sufferer. To find out the location of elderly people who forget their directions, it can do some expansion from a combination system of work between GPS and SMS which can send location like coordinate point via the electronic map. The purpose of this research was to develop a GPS technology detection device prototype for people with dementia. This study used a descriptive research design with a research and development approach, and the implementation was carried out at CV Cometronica Palembang and Panti Sosial Harapan Kita Ogan Ilir. The working concept of the prototype was detecting the existence of dementia sufferers using GPS in the patient so that the system will send their position to the smartphone of the caregiver. The main components used the Neo 6M, Arduino, Sim800, prototype button, and battery. The research was analyzed by testing the prototype of the GPS technology detection device with two stages of testing which were carried out 16 times each. The results showed that the prototype sent latitude and longitude coordinates to the operator because the distance traveled exceeds 1 Kilometer from the house and the prototype sent the coordinates because the operator sent an SMS with a GPS code. The prototype of this GPS technology detection device is effective in people with dementia. It is hoped that the existence of a GPS detector for the elderly with dementia can help health workers, elderly families, and the elderly in monitoring their location
