Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that will be suffered for life and cannot be cured but can be controlled so that complications do not occur. Commitment is needed for people with diabetes mellitus to be able to control and also take good care of themselves for diabetes mellitus they experience. One of the strategies that can be used to influence the commitment of diabetes mellitus sufferers is through education. One form of education that can be given to type II DM clients is diabetes self management education (DSME) through smart book media. This study aims to determine the effect of diabetes self management education through smart book media on the commitment to self-care for type II diabetes mellitus sufferers. This type of research is a quasy experiment with a pre-test-post-test research design with a control group. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling and required 30 samples which were carried out in July-August 2020. The statistical analysis of this study used a paired t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05, with a result of p value = 0.000 which this means that there is an effect of diabetes self-management education through smart books on commitment to self-care for people with diabetes mellitus type II. DSME intervention through smart books can increase self-care commitment to type II diabetes mellitus sufferers, so that diabetes self-management education through smart books can be considered as an educational method for type II diabetes mellitus sufferers and needs to use more creative and interesting media using visual media combined with the audio formed in a book.
