PENGARUH SUHU PEMANASAN PADA PROSES UPGRADING BRIKET BATUBARA DENGAN PENAMBAHAN LILIN SARANG LEBAH (APIS INDICA) SEBAGAI COATING TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK BATUBARA
Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2019 coal reserves in Indonesia amounted to 41 billion tons. This data shows that coal is a mineral which has good prospects. However, coal reserves generally include low-rank coal with high water content. Low-rank coal needs to be upgraded to increase the value of calories. One of them is by heating. The process of heating coal to a certain temperature causes water to evaporate. Evaporation of water content in coal causes a vacuum in the pores of the coal, allowing water to be reabsorbed in thecoal. To overcome the return of water filling the pores of coal can be done coating. Coal coating is done so that the coal pores can be covered so that the absorption of moisture back from the outside will be more difficult because the coal pores that have been closed. This coating will prevent coal from absorbing water again. One additive that can be used as a coal coating is honeycomb wax (Apis indica). Honeycomob wax (Apis indica) is a waste product from the honey extraction process and has a melting point of 62-64oC. This research was conducted by first carbonizing the results of the -30 +50 mesh size sieve with five temperature variations, namely 0oC, 100oC, 150oC, 200oC, 250oC. Samples to be investigated are the addition of beehives by 25% of the weight of coal and without the addition of beehives. Then printed and heated to a temperature of 80oC for 30 minutes. The results showed that different heating temperatures would produce different characteristics of coal. Based on the results of the study showed that the higher the heating temperature, the lower the inherent moisture content. In coal samples with the addition of honeycomb, the inherent moisture content dropped from 10.19%adb to 3.65%adb while in the sample without the honeycomb content the inherent moisture content dropped from 20.19%adb to 3.71%adb. Ash content in samples with the addition of beehives tends to increase from 7.12%adb to 8.04%adb while in samples without the addition of beehives also tend to increase from 8.55%adb to 10.43%adb. Flying matter content and calorific value increase with increasing temperature. The content of flying matter in samples with the addition of beehives increased from 37.97%adb to 57.54%adb and the caloric value increased from 5899 cal/gr to 6105 cal/gr while in the sample without addition increased from 38.04%adb to 44, 61%adb and caloric value increased from 4609 cal/gr to 5533 cal/gr. In terms of combustion behavior, coal mixed with beehives and then heated will produce combustion behavior in the form of initial ignition and different combustion times. Samples with the addition of beehives with a heating temperature of 250oC which are the best on combustion behavior with an initial ignition time were 05.33 minutes and the burning time was 22.27 minutes because they had the lowest inherent moisture value and the highest volatile matter. Whereas samples without the addition of beehives at the same temperature had a longer initial ignition time of 07.44 minutes with a burning time of 17.06 minutes. The heating temperature also affects the ability of water absorption again. In samples with the addition of beehives the higher the heating temperature, the lower the water is reabsorbed. This is due to the ability of the coating to better cover the pores of coal. The amount of water absorbed at 0oC was 0.823 gr while at 250oC the amount of water reabsorbed decreased to 0.173 gr. Whereas in samples without the addition of beehives along with the increase in heating temperature the ability of water absorption is higher again due to the increasingly open pores of coal. At 0oC the amount of water absorbed was 0.522 gr while at 250oC the water reabsorbed increased by 1,302 gr.
