One of the factors that greatly affects the strength of a road construction is the characteristics of the original soil where the pavement is placed on it. Soil on Jalan HM. Noerdin Pandji has unfavorable characteristics, this can be seen from the construction of the road that is bumpy and potholes, so research is needed to determine the characteristics of the soil. Testing of the physical properties of the soil includes testing moisture content (w), soil density (Gs), liquid limit (LL), plastic limit (PL), plasticity index (IP), and sieve analysis. While the testing of the mechanical properties of the soil includes consolidation tests and unconsolidated undrained triaxial tests. Based on the AASHTO classification, the soil is classified as silt clay (> 35% passes the No.200 filter) with the classification group A-7-6, the largest water content value is at STA 2 + 180 is 58.334%. Soil density test (Gs) obtained the greatest value at STA 0 + 900, depth of 3m = 2.683. The highest Liquid Limit (LL) value at STA 0 + 900 at a depth of 3m is 60.0734%, the Plastic Limit (PL) value obtained the highest results at STA 0 + 900 depth of 3m is 46.5354% and the value of Plasticity Index (IP) obtained the highest value at STA 4 + 700 3m depth is 17.0496%. Based on the USCS classification at STA 0 + 900 and STA 4 + 700 at a depth of 3m and 6m, it is a type of organic clay symbolized by OH. At STA 2 + 180, the depths of 3m and 6m are inorganic silt soil types symbolized by MH. In the consolidation test, the highest cv value was obtained at STA 4 + 700 at a depth of 6m, is 0.31264cm2/sec. The highest cc value was at STA 2 + 180, depth of 3m is 0.42828. In the Unsolidated-Undrained triaxial test, the cohesion value obtained ranged from 17.95 Kpa to 38.02 Kpa, the value of the shear angle (Ø) ranges from 8.89o to 17.22o and soil shear strength (τ) ranged from 24.31 kN/m2 to 61.77 kN/m2. Key Words :Cohesion, compression index, shear angle, shear strength, soil characteristic
