Zn-Al layered double hydroxide and Zn-Al/Biochar have been Synthesized. Synthesized material was characterized using XRD, FT-IR, SEM, BET and TG-DTA. The material is used as an adsorbent for methylene blue dyes. The results of the XRD analysis showed that the Zn-Al layered double hydroxide and its composites have diffraction at 10,150°. The results of the FT-IR analysis showed that the vibration peak appeared at the wave number 1381 cm-1. BET analysis results showed an increased surface area of Zn-Al layered double hydroxide and its composite from 9,621 m2/g to 58,461 m2/g. TG-DTA analysis showed that Zn-Al layered double layer hydroxide was decomposed into oxide at 720°C while its composites at 400°C without energy for decomposition. In SEM analysis, Zn-Al layered double hydroxide has slabs surface while the composites has smoother surface. The adsorption process of methylene blue dyes uses a variety of variations namely in pH, time, temperature and concentration as well as the desorption and regeneration processes. Kinetic data of methylene blue dyes adsorption is more suitable to use the pseudo second order model. The effect of concentration and the higher temperature used so that greater the adsorption capacity. The suitable solvents in the desorption process for Zn-Al layered double hydroxide adsorbents using HCl, biochar and 1:5 composites namely acetone. For 1:1 composites is sodium ethylenediamine and 1:3 composites is NaOH. The yield regeneration using composite adsorbents is more stable than layered double hydroxide adsorbents and biochar where in the regeneration process using composite adsorbents in the first regeneration process was able to adsorb dyes of 59.78%, second 56.11% and third 53.96%.
