PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH CAIR INDUSTRI KARET MENGGUNAKAN KARBON DARI TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT SEBAGAI ADSORBEN DAN BIOFILTER SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE
Treatment of rubber industrial wastewater using OPEFB (Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches) carbon adsorbent and biofilter S. cerevisiae has been conducted. This study aims to determine the effect of OPEFB carbon adsorbent and biofiltration time in the S. cerevisiae biofilter on decreasing the value of BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, and total nitrogen. The 1000 mL waste treatment process is carried out using the biofiltration, the adsorption, and the combination of the adsorption with the biofiltration method. The adsorption uses carbon OPEFB with a size of 60 mesh of 250 grams as adsorbent. The biofiltration uses biofilms formed by S. cerevisiae ATCC 9763 inoculated at YPDB on PVC honey comb media placed in a liquid wastewater treatment reactor. The liquid waste sample is put into the adsorption and biofiltration units with biofiltration time variations for 12, 18, 24 hours. The adsorption produced a BOD value of 10.7 mg/L, COD of 11.3615 mg/L, TSS 3 mg/L, ammonia 4.095 mg/L, and total nitrogen of 126.36 mg/L. The biofiltration after 12 hours produces a COD value of 27.6252 mg/L and a total nitrogen of 233.88 mg/L, after 24 hours produces a BOD value of 61.5 mg/L, TSS 20.3 mg/L, and ammonia 23.25 mg/L. The adsorption-biofiltration at 12 hours of biofiltration produces a BOD value of 60.0 mg/L, after 18 hours produces a COD value of 37.5380 mg/L and TSS 39 mg/L, after 24 hours produces an ammonia value of 0.275 mg/L and total nitrogen 49.20 mg/L. The results of this study indicate that the adsorption-biofiltration is effective for the characteristics of industrial wastewater in rubber with high ammonia and total nitrogen content.
