PREPARATION OF SILICA COMPOSITE FROM RICE HUSK WITH Fe3O4 AND ITS APPLICATION FOR ABSORPTION BLUE METHYLENE DYES
Research had been carried out on the preparation of silica composites from rice husk with Fe3O4 and its application to adsorption methylene blue dyes. Preparation materials were characterized using XRD, SEM-EDS and VSM. Silica adsorption on methylene blue dye was carried out with 2 variables, namely the influence of contact time and the effect of concentration. XRD diffractogram showed that silica, magnetite nanoparticles and silica-magnetite composites were successfully synthesized by the appear of silica diffraction pattern at 2θ = 22.24o in the amorphous phase, magnetite nanoparticles appeared at diffraction pattern at 2θ = 19.5o ; 35.66o ; 57.21o ; 62.91o and 71.3o, while silica-magnetite composites appear diffraction pattern at 2θ = 35.65o. The SEM-EDS results show that the morphological shape of the silica material, magnetite nanoparticles and silica-magnetite composites is almost the same, has an irregular morphology and is a bit porous. VSM results show that magnetite nanoparticles have a magnetization value of 90 emu/g while silica-magnetite composites are 20 emu/g. Optimum conditions were obtained at 80 minutes contact time. The kinetics of adsorption of silica-magnetite composites follow the pseudo second order pattern with a correlative coefficient value (R2) = 0.9999 and the adsorption isotherm follows the Langmuir equation with maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) = 74.074 mg/g.
