PERTUMBUHAN POPULASI PENTALONIA NIGRONERVOSA PADA TANAMAN LENGKUAS DAN PENGARUH TANAMAN TERSEBUT TERHADAP INFEKTIVITAS P. NIGRONERVOSA SEBAGAI VEKTOR BBTV
Banana dwarf disease is a disease of banana caused by Banana bunchy top virus or BBTV. The virus and the disease are spread by banana aphid called (Pentalonia nigronervosa. Instead of living on banana, P. nigronervosa also live on plant species belong to Family Zingiberaceae. In this research, we used galangal a member of Family Zingiberaceae as an alternative host banana aphid. The objective of the research was to know the role of galangal as alternative host of P. nigronervosa in the transmission of BBTV as well as the transmission efficiency. The results showed that galangal can be the alternative host for P. nigronervosa. The aphid can live and breed on galangal shoots kept in water and soil. However, the o galangal shoots kept in water. Galangal shoots kept in water contained more water than those kept in the soil. This led to the ease of the aphid in sucking the plant juice and makes them grow and breed better. Galangal could not reduce the infectivity of P. nigronervosa in transmitting BBTV. Banana cultivar Mas used in this research infested with banana aphid which have passed time for72 hours on galangal showed symptom of BBTV infection. The symptom appears in the form of greenish short lines along the midrib, narrower infected leaves, and erected leaves. The further symptom was the stunting of the infected plants.
