PERTUMBUHAN POPULASI PENTALONIA NIGRONERVOSA PADA TANAMAN KECOMBRANG ETLINGERA ELATIOR DAN PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP EFISIENSI P. NIGRONERVOSA SEBAGAI VEKTOR BBTV (BANANA BUNCHY TOP VIRUS)
Banana is a fruit commodity that is widely cultivated, apart from its delicious taste, banana also has high economic value. Indonesia is one of the banana producing countries and produces more than 7 tons of the fruit every year. From this abundant yield, Indonesia is able to export bananas to countries around or outside the continent. Pest attacks can reduce banana productivity. One of the important diseases of banana that can cause crop failure is banana stunt disease (Banana Bunchy Top Disease) which is caused by the Banana Bunchy Top Virus. Bunchy top disease has spread throughout European, African and Asian countries. This banana dwarf disease is transmitted by vector insects, banana aphid called Pentalonia nigronervosa. For this reason, this study aims to determine whether or not the torch ginger plant can become an alternative host for P. nigronervosa so that it might become an alternative host which may reduce the virus infections due to cause banana dwarf disease, and this study also aimed at determining the level of P. nigronervosa infectivity and efficiency after passing time in torch ginger plant. This research was conducted in the backyard of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from July to December 2020, with a population growth experiment of P. nigronervosa on 10 torch ginger shoots kept in water and soil media. Each shoot was infested with 5 P. nigronervosa. Parameters observed was the population of the aphid developed each shoot to calculate the average population. To study the effect of torch ginger on the infectivity and efficiency of P. nigronervosa after passing time on torch ginger, an experiment was conducted and arranged in a Randomized Block Design with 2 treatment and 10replication. The treatments were inoculating infected P. nigronervosa healthy bananas with and witout passing time on torch ginger. Each treatment unit consisted of 3 plants. Data collected was analyzed using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). The results showed that P. nigronervosa was able to live and breed on torch ginger plants both in soil and water media, P. nigronervosa experienced an increase in population in both planting media, in experiments conducted in water media the population tent to be stable and increased in the last day of observation, while in soil media the population decreased on the last day of observation, this was caused by several factors, one of which was plant morphology. However, the effect of torch ginger on the infectivity of P. nigronervosa was not significant. Torch ginger was not able to reduce the effectiveness of P. nigronervosa in transmitting banana dwarf virus. The percentage and intensity of disease developed in both treatments was not significantly different. Banana aphids P. nigronervosa was able to live on torch ginger, but the plant was not able to reduce the effectiveness of the aphid in transmitting Banana Bunchy Top Virus Key words: Banana Bunchy Top Virus, banana, torch ginger, Pentalonia nigronervosa.
