PENGARUH QUENCHING TERHADAP KEKERASAN PADA BAHAN SPROCKET IMITASI SEPEDA MOTOR I
Heat treatment is a controlled heating and cooling process with the intention of changing its physical properties for a specific purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the quenching process on the hardness value of the imitation sprocket material on a motorcycle. This study also aims to increase the hardness of the imitation sprockets whose hardness values are close to the original sprockets at relatively low prices so that they can be efficient and economical for people using motorbikes. The research was started by heating the specimens with temperature variations of 7300C, 7500C, 8000C with a holding time of 10 minutes, which would then be quenched with water cooling media. Testing with the results of the quenching process in the Rockwell hardness test, it can be seen the hardness value of each specimen and the percentage increase in hardness formed. The result of the original sprocket hardness value was 78.92 HRA. The highest hardness results obtained on the imitation sprockets whose hardness values are close to the original sprockets is the imitation sprocket specimens with a temperature of 8000C whose hardness value is 73.25 HRA with a percentage of an increase of 24%. From the research results, it can be concluded that the quenching process can increase the hardness of the imitation sprockets without heat treatment.
