MODEL KINERJA BISNIS "BRANCHLESS BANKING" (STUDI PADA AGEN BANK DI PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN, INDONESIA)
The gap between behavioral factors and conventional financial theory led to the emergence of studies on behavioral finance. This research links it to a study about the performance of banking business as financial intermediation. The number of people who have not used bank services (unbankable people) in Indonesia compared to neighboring countries is still quite high. One application of the innovation strategy to overcome this problem is the branchless banking strategy through bank partnerships (agent banking). Based on theoretical and empirical gaps related to factors that influence the performance of this business strategy, this research is focused on the problem of agent behavior factors. The results of previous studies indicate that the level of financial literacy, competency and the feeling of being bound by agents to the bank (work engagement) are the main issues that have a correlation with the agent's business performance. So that the objectives of this study can be formulated, namely to find out the role of financial literacy and competency in influencing the business performance of agents through work engagement as mediating variable. This research was analyzed descriptively and verificatively through a survey involving 348 'Laku Pandai' bank agents in nine regencies / cities of South Sumatra Province, using the proportional random sampling method. Data obtained from observations, documentation, questionnaires and interviews with several related parties. The analysis and hypothesis testing technique uses variance-based Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) called Partial Least Square (PLS). The results showed that financial literacy and competency influence the work engagement of agents. The role of work engagement as a mediator strengthens the effect of financial literacy on agent's business performance. The influence between variables partially shows the influence of financial literacy and work engagement on the agent's business performance directly. While the competency variable has no effect on the business performance of agent if not through work engagement. This shows that the role of work engagement fully mediates (full mediation) the effect of competency on agent's business performance. This research produced a novelty in the form of "Branchless Banking Business Performance Model Based on Financial Literacy, Competency and Work Engagement". This model illustrates that to improve business performance related to bank partnership business, it needs to be supported by a good level of financial literacy and competency through feeling bound to its agency business activities.
