PERTUKARAN SOSIAL DALAM KOMUNIKASI ANTARBUDAYA ANTARA GLOBAL HOST DAN MAHASISWA ASING (STUDI PADA GLOBAL HOST AIESEC UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA)
This research entitled "Social Exchanges in Intercultural Communication between Global Host and Foreign Students” is a descriptive study which conducted based on urgency whereas Palembang citizens have less interest in taking social exchange of intercultural communication through the Global Host program so that this study aims to determine the form of social exchange that obtained in intercultural communication that takes place between Global Host AIESEC UNSRI and foreign students. This study uses the Social Exchange Theory (SET) of John Thibault and Harold Kelley. This study is using qualitative research methods. Data collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. The results in this study indicate that Global Host AIESEC UNSRI has a strong will to get rewards from social relations with foreign students guiding them to voluntarily involving in social relations as a host family of the foreign students so that they are willing to do intercultural communication through social exchanges. The results of AIESEC UNSRI’s Global Host social exchange are in a satisfying and stable status so that it has a positive value which can be concluded because Global Host chooses to stay in a relationship until the program is done. Besides its also found communication obstacles that make the intensity of the relationship between Global Host and foreign is reduced after the return of foreign students to their country. Therefore, to achieve maximum social exchange in intercultural communication, the Global Host must be able to know and determine what rewards are expected and the standards that determine the satisfaction and stability of social relations they would have. The intensity of intercultural communication with foreign students will also help to keep the sustainability of social relationships between Global Host and foreign students.
