Indonesia is a country adopting open economic system in which foreign trade and foreign direct investment become economic growth support The objective of this study was to know to what extent the influence of foreign trade and foreign direct investment toward economic growth in Indonesia is and to look at the response of economic growth caused by the change of foreign trade and foreign direct investment. The data used in this research were time series data in the periods of 1980-2012. The method used to analyze the data was Vector Autoregression (VAR) method using Unit Root test, Causality Granger test and Cointegrastion that finally produced Impulse Response Function (IRF). The result of Granger showed that there was a two-way relationship between the foreign trade and the economic growth and a one-way relationship between the economic growth and FDI in which the economic growth influenced FDI. The result of Impulosive Response Fucntion showed that the change of foreign trade and foreign direct investment had a positive response on the economic growth. Meanwhile, the result of Variance Decomposition showed that the economic growth contribution gave the biggest influence toward the variable itself. The economic growth contribution influenced the forein trade variable more than the foreign investement variable.
