This research was aimed at identifying the efficiency of thread spinning industry, and the relationship between their production costs and efficiency in Indonesia. Efficiency refers to the cpmparison between input and value added of an industry. Three spinning industry is the one that processes cotton into thread. The secondary data covered the period of 1998 — 2008 collected from reports of Central Bureau for Indonesia Statistics and Industry Ministry. Cross tabulation was applied to find out the efficiency under study and simple regression estimate to determine the relationship between the production costs and such efficiency. The research results show the efficiency in this industry was not optimum. The annual value added was lower that the production costs. In addition, the annual value added, production costs, and efficiency level tended to be low. There was a positive relationship between the production costs and the efficiency. The efficiency variable contributed 1.4% of such relationship whereas the other 98.6% was influnced by other factors not covered by the model. The value of t obtained was 0.355364 which was lower than that of t table (1.533955). In other words, the production cost variable did not have any siginificant influence on the efficiency variable as indicated by the value of t table at a 0.05.
