This study was aimed at describing the influence of government expenditure in health and education sectors on the poverty reduction in Southern Sumatera. The data were the percentage of government expenditure in health and education and the percentage of poor people in Southern Sumatera in 2002-2012. This study showed that (a) generally, in 2002 - 2012, there was a positive trend in the government expenditure in health and education sectors in Southern Sumatera. In other words, the increase in the government expenditure in health and education sectors did not only cause the increase in the government expenditure in education poverty, but also the decrease in the percentage of poor people in Southern Sumatera. This study also showed that the government expenditure in health and education had a positive and significant influence on the poverty reduction.
