KONTAMINASI TELUR SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTHS (STH) PADA SAYURAN YANG DIJUAL DI PASAR MODERN DAN PASAR TRADISIONAL DI KECAMATAN ILIR TIMUR II KOTA PALEMBANG
Background: Soil transmitted helminths (STH) infections are major public health problems in developing countries, especially Indonesia. Consuming improperly washed raw vegetables is a major way in which pathogens are transmitted into the humans body. Most people do not wash raw vegetables that will be consumed properly. Therefore, this study was conducted to know the contamination of Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) eggs on vegetables sold in modern market and traditional market in Ilir Timur II Subdistrict, Palembang City. Methods: This study was a descriptive-observational study. The samples studied were 36 samples and the location of acquired the sample were Modern Market and Traditional Market in Ilir Timur II Subdistrict, Palembang City. The sample processing was carried out using the sedimentation method. Microscopic observations were made at the Biooptic Laboratory and Medical Chemistry Laboratory of FK Unsri. Result: There were 18 of the 36 samples researched were positive for STH egg contamination. Among them, 8 out of 18 samples (44.4%) which were taken from the modern market in Palembang City consist of 3 curly lettuce (100%), 3 celery vegetables (100%), 2 green onions (66.6%), and 10 out of 18 samples (55.5%) were taken from traditional market in Palembang City, consist of 3 curly lettuce (100%), 1 celery (33.3%), 2 green onions (66.6%), 1 carrot (33.3%), 3 potato (100%). The number of eggs obtained were 103 A. lumbricoides eggs and 1 hookworm egg. Conclusion: There was a contamination of STH eggs on vegetables sold in modern market and traditional market in Ilir Timur II Subdistrict, Palembang City.
