KARAKTERISTIK INFEKSI OTAK OPORTUNISTIK PADA PENDERITA HIV DI RSUP DR. M. HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a retrovirus that causes the death of CD4 + T cells and immune deficiency. Opportunistic infections are a major cause of HIV-related morbidity and mortality, one of the most common form is opportunistic brain infections. The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of opportunistic brain infections in HIV patients at RSUP dr. M. Hoesin Palembang. Method. This research is a cross sectional descriptive study from medical record data. Result. From 44 subjects, the majority of patients were male (84.1%) compared to women (15.9%). Most cases occurred in the 30-39 years age range (36.4%). Most cases were in individuals who worked (79.5%) and (20.5%) did not work. Most patients had history of high school education (79.5%). Most of the patients came from Palembang (56.8%). The most common type of infection was toxoplasma encephalitis (65.9%). The most clinical manifestation was decreased of consciousness (81.8%). Most patients had CD4 + counts
