HUBUNGAN ANTARA JENIS KELAMIN DENGAN AMBANG BATAS NYERI DAN TOLERANSI NYERI PADA MAHASISWA FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA ANGKATAN 2017
Pain based on The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) is an uncomfortable sensory experience and emotional condition accompanied by potential and actual tissue damage. Pain can be affected by age, gender, culture, race, social and others. Pain has two values such as pain threshold and pain tolerance. This study was experimental with a one-shot case study design. Samples of this study were medical students Sriwijaya University Class of 2017 which fulfills the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instrument that used were Cold Pressor Test, Stopwatch and Numeric Rating Scale. Among 84 students (42 male and 42 female), more severe pain scale were found in female respondents with a percentage of 88.1% (n=37). The pain threshold for women were shorter than men (mean difference 14.44 seconds; p = 0.001) and pain tolerance were shorter in women (mean difference 20.16 seconds; p = 0.001). Women more sensitive with pain and have a severe pain tolerance on the pain scale. Men were more resistant with pain thresholds and pain tolerance than women. There were significant relationship between gender for pain threshold and pain tolerance in medical students Sriwijaya University Class of 2017.
