KINERJA BANK SYARIAH PASCA MUNCULNYA DUAL BANKING SYSTEM (DALAM OPERASIONAL PERBANKAN DI INDONESIA)
Having a lot of Shari’a banks, whether operate in stand alone way or Shari’a Exertion Unit (dual banking system) offered by Conventional Banks, give a new vision to the banking history in Indonesia. Public’s trust to Shari’a Bank was rising when Indonesia had monetary crisis since 1997, which caused many Conventional Bank, especially on whole sale banking, collapsed. However, this indirectly influenced the performance of Shari’a Bank. This paper investigated the performance of Shari’a Banks after the emergence of dual banking system in Indonesian banking, since government issued UU No. 10 in 1998. the research period was from 1998 up to 2004. The performance of Shari’a Bank was judge from several judgment for bank health established by Indonesia Bank. The judgment included the number of bank and bank office, reserve requirement (RR) as many as 5%, Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) to cover the loss which might occur as many as 8%, Finance to Deposit Ratio (FDR) as many as 85-110% and renumerativeness of Shari’a Banks which was measured by the degree of Return On Asset (ROA) and Return On Equity (ROE). In addition, certain from to measure the degree of growth of Shari’a bank exertion indicator was also used. The result of the research showed that the performance of Shari’a Bank observed from office network and reserve requirement was good. The degree of FDR also showed a good condition, although the financing still focused on the mark-up based model or “murabahah”. Furthermore, when it was observed from the degree of CAR, Shari’a bank also showed a good condition. In terms of ROA and ROE, observed from the rate of growth, as whole Shari’a Bank Showed a good condition as well, eventhough at the beginning the performance not too good.
