HUBUNGAN ANTARA POLA ASUH IBU DAN KECEMASAN ANAK SEBELUM MELAKUKAN PERAWATAN GIGI
Background: Most people still often ignore dental health, judging that dental and oral care is a treatment that has a scary impression. Dental anxiety in children is higher than dental anxiety in adults. Dental anxiety in children can be influenced by external factors in the form of mother’s parenting styles. Types of parenting consist of permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative parenting. Objective: to determine the relationship between parenting styles and children's anxiety before dental treatment. Materials and Methods: This research is an analytic survey with a cross sectional design approach. The subjects of this study were 36 child patients who visited with their mother to three private dental clinics to perform dental treatment using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used The Parenting Style and Dimensions Questionnaire to measure parenting style and Facial Image Scale to measure child anxiety. Results: The frequency distribution based on parenting was permissive as much as 30.6%, authoritarian as much as 16.7%, and democratic as much as 52.8%. The p-value is 0.001, which is statistically significant, meaning that there is a significant relationship between maternal parenting and children's anxiety before dental treatment.
