Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of synovial joints characterized by degradation of joint cartilage followed by subchondral bone thickening, osteophyte formation, synovial inflammation, and joint degeneration. Obesity has been identified as risk factor of knee osteoarthritis. Researches on the relationship of obesity and osteoarthritis are still limited and has many result discrepancies. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between BMI and the radiographic degree of knee osteoarthritis according to the Kellgren-Lawrence Grading Scale in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional design. The data were taken from the Installation of Medical Records and Radiology in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January to October 2020. Variables examined including age, sex, BMI, and Kellgren-Lawrence radiographic degree. The obtained data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. Result: In this study, the number of study subjects were 36 patients. Statistical tests performed with Likelihood Ratio analysis on the relationship between body mass index with the radiographic degree of knee osteoarthritis according to Kellgren Lawrence Grading Scale, the obtained p value was 0.142 (p value > 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, there was no significant relationship found between body mass index and radiographic degree of knee osteoarthritis according to Kellgren Lawrence Grading Scale.
