Background: Yellow wood plant (Arcangelisia flava) is member of the Menispermaceous family which has antidiabetic potential since it contains secondary metabolites in the form of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, triterpenoids, and tannins. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of yellow wood leaves in inhibiting alpha-glucosidase enzyme activity. Methods: This study was experimental in vitro laboratory using a post-test design. Yellow wood leaves is extracted using infusion method and then tested for phytochemical compounds of alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. An inhibition test using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with 3 concentrations of yellow wood extract. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2013 program. Results: The water extract of the yellow wood leaves contained alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins, and tannins. The water extract of yellow wood leaves does not contain steroid compounds. This study found that water extract of yellow wood leaves (Arcangelisia flava) was ineffectively in inhibit activity of the alpha glucosidase enzyme with an IC50 yield of 195,161 ppm. Conclusion: The water extract of yellow wood leaves has a poor inhibitory effect, so it is ineffective inhibiting the activity of the alpha glucosidase enzyme. Keywords: Yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava), potential antidiabetic, alpha glucosidase enzyme inhibition, phytochemicals.
