Kekasaaran permukaan merupakan salah satu kriteria penentuan kualitas pemesinan. Parameter ini di pengaruhi oleh parameter pemesinan seperti kecepatan potong (Vc), gerak makan pergigi (fz) dan kedalaman makan radial (ar). Material diproses dengan menggunakan side milling dengan arah makan down milling. Kemudian hasil proses milling diukur dengan surface roughness taster dengan mengambil nilai roughness average (Ra) sebagai nilai kekasarannya. Prediksi kekasaran permukaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Response Surface Methodology (RSM). RSM dipilih sebagai metode pendekatan kuantitatif berdasarkan eksperimental dan pemodelan. Adapun jumlah pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 16 data eksperimen untuk 3 parameter pemesinan. Pemodelan kekasaran permukaan pemesinan milling AISI 1045 dengan metode RSM dalam pemodelan Quadratic menunjukan hasil model yang signifikan. Dengan nilai F-Value sebesar 5,61 dan P-Value sebesar 0,0241. P-Value kurang dari 0,05 menunjukkan bahwa model signifikan. Nilai mean square error rata-rata dalam penelitian ini juga menunjukkan hasil yang baik yaitu sebesar 0,009144 dan error rata-rata sebesar 0,122166%. Pengaruh kecepatan potong terhadap kekasaran permukaan yaitu semakin tinggi kecepatan potong maka akan menghasilkan nilai kekasaran yang halus dan sebaliknya, semakin tinggi nilai gerak makan pergigi dan kedalaman makan radial maka akan semakin kasar nilai kekasaran yang didapat.

Surface roughness is one of the criteria for determining machining quality. This parameter is influenced by machining parameters such as cutting speed (Vc), motion feed (fz) and radial depth of cut (ar). The material is processed using side milling with down milling feeding direction. Then the results of the milling process are measured with a surface roughness tester by taking the roughness average (Ra) value as the roughness value. Surface roughness prediction is done using response surface methodology (RSM). RSM was chosen as a quantitative approach based on experimental and modeling data. The number of data retrieval in this study were 16 experimental data for 3 machining parameters. Surface roughness modeling of AISI 1045 milling by Quadratic response surface methodology showed significant model results. Evidenced by the F-Value of 5,61 and P-Value of 0,0241. P-Value less than 0,05 indicates that the model is significant. The mean square error mean in this study also showed good results in the amount of 0,00944 and an average error of 0,122166% .The effect of cutting speed on roughness is the higher the cutting speed will produce a smooth roughness value and vice versa, while the effect of feeding motion and feeding depth on roughness is directly proportional, the higher the value of feeding motion and the depth of feeding, the coarser the roughness score will be.
