EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BUNGA PISANG AMBON (Musa paradisiaca L.) DALAM MEMBERSIHKAN SMEAR LAYER PADA DINDING SALURAN AKAR
Removing of smear layer from the root canal is one of the determining factors in the success of endodontic treatment. The ideal nature of irrigation materials must be able to remove both organic and inorganic components. Musa paradisiaca L blossom is one of the natural plant's part that has an active ingredient which removes the smear layer. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Musa paradisiaca L blossom extract on the removal of the root canal smear layer. This quasi-experimental study used 30 mandibular premolar teeth whose crown was cut to the CEJ to obtain a working length of 13mm. The root canal was prepared with a crown-down technique with ProTaper Universal, with initial and final irrigation in group I irrigated using Musa paradisiaca L blossom extract 100% and group II irrigated using 17% EDTA. NaCl 0.9% is used between each file. The root canal was dried using a paper point and stored in an incubator at 370C for 24 hours. Buccolingual direction was cut and seen using a measuring microscope (1000x magnification). Torabinejad score (2003) was used to measure the level of cleanliness of the root canals of the smear layer. Data was analyzed with Mann-Whitney, Chi-Square and Kolmogorov Smirnov as alternative tests. The results showed that Musa paradisiaca L blossom extract 100% was effective to remove the root canal smear layer. Keywords: Musa paradisiaca L blossom, root canal irrigation, smear layer.
