The Relationship among attitude towards reading, interest in reading, and functional reading achievement of the students of SMP N 1 and SMP N 2 Indralaya Utara
The objectives of this study were to find out: whether or not there is a significant correlation between Attitude towards Reading and Functional Reading Achievement (FRA) and between Reading Interest and FRA; whether or not there is a significant contribution of aspects of Attitude towards Reading, Reading Interest, and aspects of reading to FRA; whether or not there is any significant difference of students' FRA in terms of gender and grade. This study was a correlational study. To collect the data, the Functional Reading Achievement Test (FRAT) and the questionnaire of Attitude towards and Interest in Reading Literacy (ATIReaL) were distributed to 150 students. The results showed that there was no significant correlation betVieen Attitude towards Reading and Reading Interest to FRA as a whole, however, there were some aspects of Attitude towards Reading and Reading Interest correlated significantly to students' FRA; there were some aspects of Attitude towards Reading and Reading Interest contributed significantly to students' FRA, and from aspects of reading, cause and effect had the highest contribution to ERA (67.7%); In FRA, between grade 7 and 8 (p value .000< 0.05), grade 7 and 9 (p value .000< 0.05) and grade 8 and 9 (p value .008< 0.05) the significant difference existed. Meanwhile, in terms of gender the significant difference did not exist (p value 0.98> 0.05).
