Improving Narrative Writing Achievement of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Quraniah Palembang by Using Action-Feeling-Setting Strategy
The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not (1) there was any significant difference in narrative writing achievement of the students between before and after they were taught by using Action Feeling Setting Strategy, (2) there was any significant difference in narrative writing achievement between the students who were taught by using Action Feeling Setting Strategy and those who were not. This study used a quasi experimental research method, pre-test and post-test control group design. The population was the eighth grade students of SMP Quraniah Palembang in the academic year 2016-2017 and the number of sample was 68 students. Convenience sampling technique was used. The experimental group was taught by using Action-Feeling-Setting Strategy while the control group was not given any treatment. The data of this research were obtained by means of writing test consisting of the pre-test and the post-test. The results of the test were analyzed by using t-test: paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. By using SPSS v.22 for Windows program, the results showed that (1) there was a significant improvement in students’ writing achievement after they were taught by using Action-Feeling-Setting strategy with the mean diff=22.64, and ρ.value=.000, and (2) there was a significant difference in writing achievement between the students who were taught by using Action-Feeling-Setting strategy and those who were not with the mean diff=12.02, and ρ .value=.000. Therefore, it can be stated that Action-Feeling-Setting strategy was effective to improve students' writing achievement.
