Improving listening achievement of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Indralaya through multimedia
The objectives of this study were to find out (1) whether or not there was any significant difference in listening achievement of the tenth grade students of SMAN I lndralaya between before and after they were taught by using multimedia and (2) whether or not there was any significant difference in listening achievement between the students who were taught by using multimedia and those who were not taught by using multimedia. This study applied a quasi-experimental research method and the research design was pretest posttest non-equivalent control group design. The number of population was 262 tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Indralaya and convenience sampling technique was used to select 69 students as the sample of this study. They were divided into the experimental group (35 students) and the control group (34 students). In collecting the data, each group was given a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed statistically by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The result showed: (1) there was a significant difference in students' listening achievement between before and after they were taught by using multimedia (mean different=13.714; p-value=0.000) and (2) there was a significant difference in listening achievement between the students who were taught by using multimedia and those who were not taught by using multimedia (mean difference=14.027; p-value.000). In conclusion, multimedia was effective to be applied in teaching listening for the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Indralaya.
