The Use of spider diagram to improve descriptive writing achievement of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 14 Palembang
This study aimed (1) to find out whether or not there was any significant difference in descriptive writing achivement of the 10th grade students of one of the s.enior high schools in Palcmbang aftcr thcy were taught by using Spider Diagram strategy and (2) to find out whether or not there was any signiticant difference in descriptive writing achivement between the students who were taught by using Spider Diagram strategy and thosc who wcrc not. Quasi-experimental pretest posttcst dcsign was used in this study. The writer applied convenienee sampling technique, and sixty tenth grade students of SMA N 14 Palembang in the academic year of 2015/2016 wcre chosen as the sample. The sample was given two descriptive writing tests: pretest and posttest. The data wen analysed statistically by applying paircd samplc t-test and independent sample t-test. The results shosved (1) there was a significant difference in descriptive writing achievement of tenth grade students aller they were taught by using Spider Diagram strate&v (p-value=.000) and (2) there was a signifeeant difference in descriptive writing achivement between the students who were taught by using Spider Diagram strategy and those who were not (p-value= .036 < .050) Therefore, it could be stated that Spider Diagram strategy was effeetive tu improve students' dt.,criptive writing achicvement.
