The use of critical reading strategy to improve reading analytical exposition text achievement of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 15 Palembang
Analytical exposition text is one of the text types studied at senior high school level in Indonesia. This text persuades readers or students to either agree and believe or not with the writer's argument. Understanding the content of this text is challenging for EFL students. To help the students overcome the problem, Critical Reading Strategy was applied in this study to improve reading analytical exposition text achievement of eleventh graders. This study used a pre-experimental research method that applied one-group Pretest-posttest design. The population was the eleventh grade students of one of the senior high schools in Palembang in academic year 2016-2017 and the 34 students were selected as sample by using convenience sampling technique. The data of this study were collected by using a pre-test and a post-test and analyzed statistically by using paired sample t-test. The findings revealed that there was a significant difference in the students' reading analytical exposition text achievement between before and after they were taught by using Critical Reading Strategy (mean diff=17.76, and p-value=.000). Therefore, it can be concluded that Critical Reading Strategy can help improve the students' reading analytical exposition text achievement.
