The Correlations among learning motivation, learning styles, and reading comprehension achievement of eleventh graders of SMAN 15 Palembang
The objectives of this study were to find out if: (1) there was any significant correlation between the students' learning motivation and their reading comprehension achievement, (2) there was any significant correlation between the students' learning styles and their reading comprehension achievement, and (3) there was any contribution of the students‘ learning motivation and learning styles to their reading comprehension achievement. The sample of this study was 87 eleventh graders of SMAN 15 Palembang. In collecting the data, two questionnaires and a reading test were employed. The data were analyzed statistically by usingPearson Product Moment Correlation, Compare Means One-way ANOVA, and Regression analysis with SPSS version 24. The results of this study are as follows: 1) there was a significant correlation between students‘ learning motivation and their reading comprehension achievement (r-obtained =0.317, Sig. 2 tailed = 0.003), 2) there was no significant difference between students‘ learning styles and their reading comprehension achievement (f-value = 0.189, Sig. = 0.828), 3) thecontribution of predictor variables (learning motivation and learning styles) toward criterion variable (reading comprehension achievement) was 10.1 % (r-square = 0.101, Sig. F = 0.003). In conclusion, there was a significant correlation between learning motivation, learning styles and reading comprehension achievement.
