Improving vocabulary mastery of fifth grade pupils of sd negeri 05 indralaya utara through letter strategy
This study investigated whether or not there are significant differences in (1)
pupils’ vocabulary mastery between before and after they were taught by using
Letter Strategy, (2) pupils’ vocabulary mastery in terms of gender, and (3) pupils’
vocabulary mastery in terms of score category. This study used pre-experimental
method and one group pre-test and post-test as the design. Total population
sampling was chosen to take the sample in this case 33 fifth grade pupils of SD
Negeri 05 Indralaya Utara in the academic year 2012/2013. The participants were
taught by using letter strategy, one of mnemonic strategies. The data were
collected by means of vocabulary test which was administered as pre-test and
post-test. The result of the statistical analysis showed that letter strategy
improved pupils’ vocabulary mastery. The result also showed that there was no
difference in the vocabulary achievement in terms of gender, suggesting that
gender did not affect pupils’ vocabulary mastery. The finding also showed that
there was a significance difference in pupil’ vocabulary mastery in terms of score
category
