Enhancing students’ phonological awareness through musical activities to the eighth graders of SMP Negeri 53 Palembang
The objective of this study was to find out whether or not musical activities can enhance the students’ phonological awareness. The method used was quasi experimental study. 75 students from SMP Negeri 53 Palembang were chosen as the population. Thirty students who never join English course and had the same level of English achievement were chosen as the sample. Fifteen students were in the experimental group taught by musical activities and fifteen students were in the control group did not get any treatment. The data were collected by using test. The data obtained were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The calculation was done by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 12.00. The result of the study showed that t-obtained was 8,861 and df was 28, t table was 1,701. T value > t table. 8,861 > 1,701. It can be concluded musical Activities enhance students’ Phonological Awareness.
