The Correlations among vocabulary, grammar, and listening achievement of the eighth graders of SMPN 19 Palembang
The objectives of this present study were to find out the students’ vocabulary, grammar and listening achievements, the correlations among these variables, and the contribution of vocabulary and grammar either individually or combined to listening achievement. The vocabulary, grammar, and listening tests were distributed to 107 students of the eighth graders of SMPN 19 Palembang. The result showed that the students’ listening, vocabulary, and grammar were categorized into good (????̅: 72.39; 79.51; and 72.88) respectively. Moreover, the correlation analyses showed that there was a correlation between grammar and listening achievement but not significant correlation (R= 0.150), and the positive significant correlation existed between vocabulary and listening (R= 0.528), and there was a significant correlation between the combination of vocabulary and grammar and listening achievement (R= 0.432). Based on regression analysis, it was found that only vocabulary achievement contributed significantlyto the students’ listening achievement (27.8%). Moreover, the combination of vocabulary and grammar gave contribution for 18.7% to the students’ listening achievement.
