Improving the vocabulary mastery of the second year students of SMP Negeri 19 Ogan Komering Ulu by using vocabulary network
The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was any difference of vocabulary mastery between the students whore are taught through Vocabulary Network and those who were not taught through Vocabulary Network. The population of this study covered all the second year students of SMP Negeri 19 Ogan Komering Ulu in the academic year 2012/2013 with the total number of 196 students. Two classes of the population were taken as a sample by using purposive sampling method. Forty students from class 8.1 were the experimental group and thirty nine students from class 8.3 were the control group. This study was conducted through pretest-posttest control group design. The pretest was given before treatment and the posttest was given after the treatment. Before the test was used, its validity and reliability was checked. The data obtained from the test were analyzed by using t-test (paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test) through statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) program for windows. Based on the independent sample t-test, the value of t-obtained was 3.453. at the significant level p1.991). The result of the statistical analysis showed that vocabulary network improved students’ vocabulary mastery. It was concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected therefore the research hypothesis (Hi) was accepted. It means that there was a significant difference of vocabulary mastery between the students who were taught through Vocabulary Mastery and those who were not taught through vocabulary Network.
