Background: Laparotomy is a surgical procedure by making an incision in the abdominal lining so that there is tissue damage which will cause post-surgical pain. Pain can cause discomfort and problems that will interfere with physiological responses thereby impacting the healing process during post-operative laparotomy care. One non-pharmacological therapy that can help control pain is finger-grip relaxation. Objective: To describe the results of pediatric nursing practice which focuses on nursing care for children after laparotomy surgery and is in accordance with the study of evidence based learning. Method: The method used use was a descriptive case study approach and journal review of patients with post-operative laparotomy. Results: The results of the study showed that all three patients who had undergone laparotomy surgery had pain with various scale. There were 3 similar nursing problems that appeared in all three patients. The therapy provided in this nursing care paper is finger-grip relaxation therapy. This intervention is carried out by taking a deep breath while holding one of the fingers alternately and simultaneously giving words of affirmation for healing to the patients. The therapy was given for 3 consecutive days with an intensity of 10 minutes each time. The results of this therapy showed there was a decrease in pain scale of the three managed patients. Discussion: Finger grip relaxation therapy can control the pain intensity. The mechanism of doing this finger grip relaxation will create reflection points on the hand that can provide stimulation to transmit electrical waves which are then transmitted to the nerves in the body organs that are experiencing problems, especially the pain felt due to post-laparotomy incisions. Conclusion: Based on the analysis of the 3 managed cases that have been carried out, finger grip relaxation therapy can be a companion therapy to help reduce pain afier laparotomy surgery.
