PENERAPAN AROMATERAPI PEPPERMINT PADA ANAK DENGAN MASALAH BERSIHAN JALAN NAPAS TIDAK EFEKTIF DI RUANGAN SELINCAH 1 RUANG INFEKSI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Respiratory disorders in children are an issue that must be addressed as they have a major impact on a child's development and health in the long run. Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Pneumonia are diseases that often affect children. One of the symptoms that appear is shortness of breath. Shortness of breath that occurs in toddlers can be caused by secret buildup, inability to remove secretions independently and weak cough reflexes. One of the therapies to reduce shortness of breath is the administration of peppermint aromatherapy, the mint content will loosen the bronchi so as to facilitate breathing. Objective: Present the implementation of nursing practice results in children who focus on nursing care in children with ineffective airway clearance problems and the application of peppermint aromatherapy. Method: The method used in this paper is a qualitative description with a case study approach and a journal review of the use of peppermint aromatherapy. Results: Based on the results of the assessment of three managed patients, the three managed patients had complaints of shortness of breath, inability to cough, and fever. The main nursing problem raised is the main nursing problem of ineffective airway clearance. The interventions provided are airway management by monitoring breathing patterns, monitoring sputum production and collaborating in providing pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies. Nonpharmacological implementation given is the administration of peppermint aromatherapy given for 3 days with a 15-minute administration time. Conclusion: The provision of peppermint aromatherapy applied to the three managed patients can reduce respiratory frequency, decrease respiratory muscles and decrease sputum production.
