HUBUNGAN ANTARA KONSUMSI KOPI DAN SIKLUS MENSTRUASI MAHASISWI FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA ANGKATAN 2021
Caffeine is commonly consumed to enhance alertness, combat drowsiness, reduce fatigue, and improve physical performance, such as increasing stamina and energy. Excessive consumption, however, may disrupt hormonal balance and sleep patterns, potentially affecting the menstrual cycle in women. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between coffee consumption and the menstrual cycle among female medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, Class of 2021. This cross-sectional study utilized a total sampling technique, involving 125 female medical students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. Univariate analysis revealed that all respondents had consumed coffee within the past month, with 7 respondents (5.6%) consuming it daily. Most were classified as low-frequency consumers (93 respondents, 74.4%), with 124 respondents (99.2%) consuming 1-2 cups per day. Coffee was primarily consumed in the afternoon or evening by 66 respondents (52.8%), and 58 respondents (46.4%) had been drinking coffee for more than 5 years. The majority preferred pure coffee (84 respondents, 56.0%), with latte as the favorite (47 respondents, 37.5%). The study found that 21 respondents (16.8%) had irregular menstrual cycles. However, bivariate analysis showed no significant association between coffee consumption and menstrual cycles, whether based on consumption routine (p = 0.378), number of cups per day (p = 1.000), duration of consumption (p = 0.547), or time of consumption (p = 0.966), among female medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, Class of 2021
